From the home screen, you can add shortcuts, widgets, and other items to customize the device to the user’s needs. To view the home screen, select the Home icon.

Important: Dedicated (locked) devices, or devices with Kiosk Mode turned on, do not have access to the home screen. Unless stated otherwise, these instructions apply to non-dedicated devices that are unlocked and running Chat software.

Open or Exit Chat Software

To open Chat software:

From the home screen or Apps folder, select the Chat software shortcut.

Note: For the best performance, close any other apps that are running in the background.

To minimize Chat software:

When the application is open, selecting Home will minimize the application and display the operating system’s home screen.

To exit Chat software:

Select Menu and then select Exit.

Using the power button to turn off the device will also close the application and all open apps. Turning the device on from a full power-down will restart the Chat software automatically.


Status Bar

The status bar at the top of the home screen displays icons to show notifications, battery power, and connection details.

Swiping down on the status bar displays options for viewing notifications and quickly turning on or off some commonly used Android settings.


Home Screen Shortcuts

The home screen provides shortcuts to applications. Add shortcuts as you need them.

To add a shortcut to an app:

  1. Select the Apps shortcut.

  2. Press and hold on the app and drag it to the home screen.

To add a shortcut to a widget:

  1. Press and hold on an empty area of the home screen. A menu opens.

  2. Select Apps and Widgets.

  3. Select the Widgets tab.

  4. Press and hold on the widget and drag it to the home screen.

To remove a shortcut:

  1. Press and hold on the shortcut until Remove appears.

  2. Drag the shortcut to Remove.


Battery Status Icons

When the tablet or amplifier batteries reach low or critically low levels, an icon will appear in the notifications area of the Speech Display Bar (SDB). When you connect a charger, the icon will disappear.

Note: To view battery status icons, the notifications bar must be turned on. To do this, go to Menu > Application Settings > Input. Select Enable Notification Bar to add the checkmark, indicating the feature is turned on.
