Xtreme Case Instructions

Prev Next

The Xtreme case is a flexible EVA wrap that attaches to your Accent 1000-40 device to provide extra protection.

Set Aside the Hardware Kit

Your Xtreme case came with a hardware kit bag that contains three smaller bags and additional screws and washers. Set this bag aside. You will need the screws and washers starting with step 11 of these instructions.

Remove the Original Device Frame

  1. If you are using a keyguard or TouchGuide, remove it from the frame. See “Removing the Keyguard” or “Removing the TouchGuide”.

  2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws (one on each side) that secure the frame to the device. Then loosen the top screws just enough to release the frame.

Important: Do not completely remove these two screws.

  3. If your device has screws installed in the two accessory mount locations on the bottom, remove those two screws now.

The serial number for Step 12 is located here.

  4. Grasp one side of the frame and pull it loose from the device.

Hint: You may want to use a flat-head screwdriver or similar tool to gently lift the side and bottom tabs on the back of the device.

  5. Grasp the other side of the frame and pull it loose from the device.

  6. Pull the tabs on the top of the frame out of the slots on the device.

  7. Pull the tab on the bottom of the frame out of the slot on the device.

Attach the Xtreme Case to the Device

If the handle is still fastened to your device, leave it in place; the case fits around it. Optional: If you plan to use a carrying strap or strap handle with your device, attach the loops before attaching the case to the device.

Important: The Xtreme case was made to fit tightly and stay on once attached. This makes it a little harder to attach. You will need to stretch the case to fit it over the device and pull and twist it to make the holes in the case line up with holes in the device. Don’t be afraid to tug and pull to fit the case properly.

First, place the Xtreme case face down in front of you as shown.

Top

Bottom

  1. Carefully insert the side of the device with the volume button into the case.

  2. Gradually push the entire left side into the case.

  3. Carefully work the device into the case along the bottom only, as shown.

  4. Avoid pinching the raised round features of the EVA material between the black frame of the Xtreme case and the sides of the device.

  5. Turn the assembly over.

  6. Avoid pinching the raised round features of the EVA material between the black frame of the Xtreme case and the sides of the device.

Hint: Push the soft EVA material over the side first, and then the black plastic frame fingers.

  7. Carefully work the two tabs of the Xtreme case over the end of the device.

  8. Avoid pinching any parts of the soft case material between the device and the black frame.

  9. Carefully work the fingers on the top of the Xtreme case over the top of the device.

  10. Verify that the fingers on the end and top of the Xtreme case clear the device case.

  11. Squeeze the corner of the Xtreme case into place.

Hint: To learn how to reattach one of the raised round features of the EVA material if it pulls loose from its black plastic frame finger, see “How to Reattach a Round EVA Feature to the Frame Finger”.

  12. Remove the three smaller bags from the hardware kit bag and set them aside.

  13. Remove the remaining four loose screws and cup washers from the hardware kit bag and install them on the two sides as shown.

Important: Be sure to insert each screw into a cup washer so that the head of the screw is enclosed within the “cup” of the washer.

  14. Check the serial number on the back of your Accent device.

    A. If you have a USA device with a serial number below 20993AC10: Skip to B below.

For all other devices: Remove the two screws with washers from the small bag labeled “BOTTOM HW for ALL INTL devices (and USA devices with SN 20993AC10 and above)” and install these screws in the bottom as shown.

    B. For USA devices with serial numbers below 20993AC10: Remove the two screws with washers from the small bag labeled “USA ONLY Bottom HW (for Serial Numbers BELOW 20993AC10)” and install these screws in the bottom as shown.

  15. Finally, tighten the two top screws that you left in place.

Note: if you are missing the top screws, spare top screws are available in the bag  labelled “Spare TOP Hardware”.

How to Reattach a Round EVA Feature to the Frame Finger

If one of the raised round features of the EVA material pulls loose from its black plastic frame finger, and/or the EVA material becomes untucked from the frame, reattach it as shown below.

In this photo, the round EVA feature has pulled loose from the black frame finger and is untucked along the edge of the frame where the red arrows are pointing.

  1. Stretch the round EVA feature a little further above the black frame finger and edges of the frame where the red arrows are pointing.

  2. Pull the round EVA feature completely over the black frame finger and tuck the EVA material in along the edges.

  3. Tuck all the EVA features into the black frame finger and verify that they are firmly in place.

  4. Repeat this procedure for any other EVA feature that has pulled loose from the frame.

How to Remove the Xtreme Case from the Device

If you need to remove the Xtreme case from the device, remove any keyguard or TouchGuide before trying to remove the Xtreme case. Otherwise, you could damage the keyguard, TouchGuide, or frame.

  1. Remove all the screws that hold the Xtreme case in place.

Store the screws in a safe location. Loose screws could be a choking hazard.

Hint: If you kept the hardware kit bag and smaller bags, store the screws in these bags.

  2. Grasp the top of the Xtreme case at a corner and pull it away from the device.

  3. Pull the other corner away from the device and pull the entire top free from the top of the device.

  4. The bottom of the Xtreme case will release easily.
