⚠️ Excessive volume or sound pressure level when using earphones or headphones can cause hearing loss over extended periods of time.
The volume button is located on the edge of the device. Press the button labeled + (closer to the power button) to increase volume. Press the button labeled – to decrease volume.

In addition to using the volume button, you can add volume controls to buttons within vocabulary pages. For instructions, see Button Actions in the Chat Software Manual.
An amplifier has been provided for additional volume. The amplifier is powered by its own battery and must be charged and turned on in order to provide sound.
The amplifier communicates with the device by means of a Bluetooth connection. If the two lose this connection, sound will be provided only by the device speakers and may not be sufficient for all environments.
To reconnect the amplifier to the device, make sure the amplifier is on and charged. Power off the device and then power it back on. The device will scan for the amplifier and reconnect to it.
Turning the Amplifier On/Off
Typically, the amplifier should be left on. When the amplifier is off, speech is still available, but it comes from the device’s internal speaker.

The amplifier power buttons (labeled “I/O” on some devices) are recessed. Use the tip of a pen when you need to press the button. Do not use an object with a sharp point, such as a pin; it could damage the button.
To turn the amplifier off:
Press and hold the amplifier power button until both the amber and blue lights come on. Then release the button.
To turn the amplifier on:
Press the amplifier power button for a second. The light will flash to indicate the amplifier is on and working properly.
The blue light will flash when on and not connected to the device. Once connected to the device, the blue light will glow steadily.
To reconnect the amplifier to the device:
Make sure the amplifier is on and charged. Power off the device and then power it back on. The device will scan for the amplifier and reconnect to it.
Disabling the Volume Buttons
Other people may intentionally or inadvertently adjust the volume of the device to a level that affects a user’s ability to communicate. The setting “Disable Device Volume Buttons” provides more control over setting and maintaining the volume level.
When Disable Device Volume Buttons is on, the device volume buttons will not adjust the volume while Chat software is open. After exiting Chat software, the buttons will adjust the volume normally.
Go to Menu > Application Settings > System.
Select the checkbox to the right of Disable Device Volume Buttons.
Exit Application Settings.
Now when the device volume buttons are pressed, they will no longer adjust the volume while using the Chat software.
