The visual scene feature allows you to create a personalized, context-specific message using images, sounds, and navigation. To create a visual scene, select a background image, set up the page, and add buttons.

Step 1: Choose a Background Image

Start by having the image on your device that you want to use for the background scene. You can take a picture using your device if it has a built-in camera, or you can transfer an existing image to the device from a computer. Once you have chosen an image, follow the steps below.

Step 2: Create a Visual Scene Page

  1. Select Menu and Edit Page.

  2. Select the location where you want to add a navigation button to take you to the visual scene. Then select Edit This Button.

  3. Add a label, scroll down to the Button Actions section, and replace the existing action with Navigate.

  4. Select the plus + at the top right to add your new visual scene page.

  5. Enter a page name.

  6. Adjust the number of rows and columns on the page.

Tip: Choosing as many rows and columns as possible will make it easier to create buttons that fit with the images on the page.

  7. Scroll down to Import Image.

  8. Select Import Image and take a picture with the device camera or find the image you chose to import. A thumbnail view of the image will appear above Import Image.

  9. Select Save, select No Animation, and select Save again.

  10. To verify that the button navigates to your new page, select Done to exit Edit Mode.

  11. Select the button to navigate to the new visual scene page.

  12. Select Menu and Edit Page, and then follow the steps below to add interactive buttons.

Step 3: Add Interactive Buttons

With the background image in place, you can use the surrounding blank spaces to create buttons that speak words, make sounds, or navigate to other pages that relate to your visual scene. In this example, the goal is to create a button that speaks “horse” whenever tapping on the horse in the picture.

  1. Select Menu and Edit Page.

  2. Select a blank button that includes part of the horse.

Note: You can adjust the size of the button later to include the entire horse.

  3. Select Create New Button.

  4. Enter “horse” into the button message field.

  5. Scroll down and toggle ON Transparent. That way the scene behind it will show through.

  6. Select Save.

  7. Select the new button and select Change Button Size. From here, you can adjust the button height and width so that it fits the entire image.

  8. Select Save.

  9. Create additional interactive buttons and re-size them to enhance the visual scene. All buttons can have their own size and shape.

  10. When you finish, select Done.
