To enable AI features in Unity AAC, the device must be updated to iOS/iPadOS 26 or higher and it must be compatible with Apple Intelligence. To find out if the device is compatible with Apple Intelligence, see the chart on this website: apple.com/apple-intelligence/.
Enable AI Features
Verify that your device is updated to iOS/iPadOS 26 or higher.
Go to the iPadOS Settings and enable Apple Intelligence.
In the app, go to Menu > Settings > AI Features > Enable AI Features.
Select Yes below “Do you wish to continue” to display the AI Features section.

Enable AI Features: If your device includes Apple Intelligence and iPadOS 26 or higher, select the on/off toggle to enable AI Features.
Modify Speech Display Bar: Use AI to correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling mistakes in the SDB, replace text in the SDB with more creative text, or translate text in the SDB to another language.
AI Message Edit: Use AI to edit grammar, punctuation, and spelling in the SDB.
AI Translate: Use AI to translate the SDB into any language supported by an Apple voice.
Configure AI Button: Add the AI button
to the SDB and configure how it functions. Select Off to disable the AI button.Creative AI: Toggle “Creative AI” on to enable more creative responses.
AI Image Generation: Use AI to create images based on your input.
AI Page Generation: Use AI to create a word list when creating a custom page.
Learning Mode: Set up a persona to personalize responses from AI.
Tip: When you finish selecting AI options, select the back arrow
until you reach the main Settings window. Then select the checkmark
to close the settings.
Use AI to Edit Messages in the Speech Display Bar (SDB)
You can use AI to correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling mistakes in SDB text.
Select Modify Speech Display Bar. Two additional options will be displayed: AI Message Edit and AI Translate.
Enable AI Message Edit. Two additional options will be displayed: Configure AI Button and Creative AI.

Select Configure AI Button. Two additional options will be displayed: Off and AI Message Edit.

Select AI Message Edit. A checkmark will appear to the right of the option and the AI button
will appear in the SDB. Enter text in the SDB as you would normally. If you want AI to check your text for errors, select the AI edit button. If there are any errors, AI will correct them.
Tips:
When AI changes the text, it will replace the AI edit button with the AI undo button
. If you do not want to keep the changes, select the AI undo button to return to your original text.If you want to temporarily stop AI from editing SDB text and hide the AI button, select Off. If you want to disable AI editing, disable AI Message Edit under Modify Speech Display Bar.
Use AI to Translate Messages in the Speech Display Bar
You can use AI to translate SDB text into any language/region supported by an Apple voice.
Select Modify Speech Display Bar.
Enable AI Translate.
Select Configure AI Button. Three additional options will be displayed: “Off”, “AI Message Edit”, and “AI Translate”.

Select AI Translate. The Choose a Language window will open with a list of languages and their regions and an “Add Language/Region” option. These are the languages to which you can translate the text you enter.

To add a language/region to the list, select Add Language/Region. The Language & Region window will open. Select the plus sign + at the top right of the window and select the language you want to add. The language will appear on the list with a checkmark.
Repeat the previous step to add any more languages to which you want to translate the text you enter.
When you are done, select the checkmark
and then select the language you want to translate to. The language you added will now appear with a checkmark in the AI Translate option and the AI translate button
will appear in the SDB. Note: To delete a language/region from the Language & Region list, choose Edit from the bottom of the window. A delete icon will precede each language/region. Choose the icon to display a “Delete” botton. When you choose Delete, a message will warn that all original vocabulary files and voices in that language will be deleted from your device and will ask if you want to continue. Choose Yes. Choose Done when you finish deleting languages/regions.
Enter text in the SDB as you would normally, and then select the AI translate button. The text you entered will be translated in the SDB. Select the SDB to speak the translated words.
Note: An Apple voice will be the default, but you can change the voice in the app Settings under “Speech.”
Tips:
When AI translates the text, it will replace the AI “Edit” button with the AI “Undo” button. If you do not want to keep the translation, select Undo to return to your original text.
To change the AI translation language at any time, go to Menu > Settings > Modify Speech Display Bar > Configure AI Button > AI Translate and select a different language/region.
If you enable both “AI Message Edit” and “AI Translate”, edits will be completed before translations. See the sequence rules that apply in the Modify Speech Display Bar menu.
Use AI to Generate Images for Buttons
You can use AI to generate a new image based on your input.
Enable AI Image Generation in the app settings, and then select the checkmark
.Go to the page on which you want to generate an AI image.
Select Menu and Edit Page.
Select the button you want to edit and select Edit This Button.
From the Edit Button window, select Generate Image to open the AI Image Generation window.

Enter a description of the image you want, select an image style, select the number of images you want, and then select Generate.
Create a Custom Page using AI
You can create a custom page in a vocabulary by using an AI feature. For information on creating a custom page manually, see Create a Custom Page by Adding Words Manually.
In the upper left area of the screen, an index symbol allows you to expand or collapse the left pane to use AI functionality when AI is turned on.

Go to Menu > Settings > AI Features > Enable AI Features.
Select AI Page Generation.
Select Menu and Edit Page.
Select Menu and Add New Page. A menu opens.
Select Custom Page Generation.
In the left pane, enter a topic.
Select the number of words to generate.
Select Generate. A word list will open on the right.

Expand Your AI in Learning Mode
Learning mode remembers recent things you speak. This helps provide you with smarter suggestions based on your own communication patterns.
Select Learning Mode to open the Learning Mode menu.

When you turn learning mode on, a message will tell you that the app will remember messages created on the device to improve AI suggestions. It will also tell you that all data will remain on the device and can be deleted at any time. Select Yes to continue. A new option will appear: “Set Up Persona”. Use this option to create a persona (a representation of yourself) for personalized responses from AI.
Select Set Up Persona. A message will briefly explain the purpose of a persona. Select Start. The “Setup Up Persona” window will present the first of six questions.
Questions 1 through 4
At each window, select the appropriate responses and choose Next.
Question 5
Add anything you think would help to build your AI persona. This question is optional. Either (a) tap in the text field to open a keyboard, enter your response, and choose Next, or (b) choose Next without entering an answer.
Question 6
Name your persona. Tap in the text field to open a keyboard, enter a name, and choose Next. A message will inform you that you have created your persona. Choose Save to save the persona. “My Personas” will now list the persona you created. If you create additional personas, they will be added to this list.
Note: To edit a persona, select its name and choose Edit.
Learning Mode Data Options
Import data
Import AI personalized data from another device or a manual backup. When you select Import data, a window will display the files stored on your device or a cloud. Navigate to the file, select it, give it a new name in the “Save as” field, and choose Save.
Export data
Export AI personalized data to another device or manually back up your information outside of the app. When you select Export data, you can (a) create a password to protect your data and choose Export, or (b) skip the password fields and choose Export. When you select Export data, a window will display the files stored on your device or a cloud. Navigate to the file, select it, give it a new name in the “Save as” field, and choose Save.
Delete all data
Remove the AI personalized data from the device. When you select Delete all data, You will be asked to confirm: “All learning mode data will be deleted. Do you want to continue?” Select Yes or No.
