When your device is charged and you first turn it on, you will be asked to agree to the End User License Agreement and data sharing permissions. Then you will select your software option and the Empower software will open.
Step 1: Agree to the End User License Agreement and Share Analytics
Read the End User License Agreement and select I Agree.
Read the information in the Help Us to Improve Your Experience window.
Select to agree or disagree to share your software usage data anonymously with developers.
Select to agree or disagree to data-sharing permissions to help improve user experience. You can change this permission setting at any time by going to Menu > Toolbox > System Settings > System Options & Support > System Options > Permission for Anonymous Data Sharing.
Step 2: Select Empower
You will be prompted to continue with either Empower software or NuVoice software. Select Empower.
Once Empower is selected, the Sign In page is displayed. From this screen you can create a new user and then select a vocabulary.
Step 3: Create a New User and Select a Vocabulary
Select the Username box, use the keyboard to enter a username, and then select Finished. The name you enter will appear in the Username box.
Select Next.
Select a vocabulary tile to open a list of available vocabularies.

For example, if you select the Unity tile, you’ll see a list of available Unity vocabularies to choose from.

Identify the vocabulary you want for this user. Select the Choose button, and then select Finished.
Step 4: Set the Vocabulary Language
Once you have selected a vocabulary, you can change the language as needed. The default language is English.
Go to Menu > Toolbox > Vocabulary > Vocabulary Settings.
Select the Settings tab from the left navigation pane.
Next to Current Language, select Change.

Select Choose next to the language you want.
Select Finished.
Basic Vocabulary Features
When you purchased your device, you also selected one or more vocabularies to use with it, such as Unity®, Essence®, LAMP Words for Life®, or Engage®.
Within each language system, there are many built-in vocabularies available that are already complete with commonly used words, phrases, and sentences. Use your vocabulary to communicate.

Message Window
The message window displays the text you enter.
Menu
The menu button opens the Quick Menu. The Quick Menu contains links to the Editor, Vocabulary Builder, and Settings.
Multi-bar
When you open the Editor or select Vocabulary Builder from the quick menu, the multi-bar displays buttons to access those features' functionality.
Status Area
When a feature is activated, its icon appears in the status area of the multi-bar: Vocabulary Builder, Touch Access, Head Tracking, Eye Tracking, or Scanning. The status area also displays the system's sound/mute status and the current time and battery level.
Activity Window
The activity window displays tools (such as punctuation), common activities (such as greetings and calendar time), and supplementary vocabulary. Supplementary vocabulary typically consists of nouns that are used less frequently and vary depending on the situation.
Note: Only certain vocabulary items (Unity 60 and 84) have an activity window.
Core Vocabulary
Most frequently used words: These are used regardless of the situation, the person being communicated with, or the age/disability of the communicator. Core vocabulary allows people to convey their message.
